The Best Cafes in Roncesvalles: A West End Toronto Local Guide

October 5, 2026
West End Toronto Roncesvalles coffee shop and cafe guide

Roncesvalles, or Roncy as everyone actually calls it, might just be the best coffee street in Toronto’s West End. The independent cafe scene here is genuinely excellent, and on any given morning you can smell it the moment you step onto the strip. I practice just north of here as a naturopathic doctor in the Junction, so this is home turf, and these are the spots I send patients to and happily visit myself. If you want the fuller food picture for the area, I also put together a guide to where to find healthy food in the West End.

‍

The Roncesvalles Cafes Worth Knowing

‍

I Deal Coffee | 221 and 250 Sorauren Ave

‍

A true Roncy classic, and you get two of them a block apart just east of the main strip. The original pulls shots on a vintage lever machine surrounded by upcycled furniture, and Ideal On The Park sits across from Sorauren Park with lots of seating, treats, and seasonal soft serve in summer. Unpretentious, neighbourly, and a lovely place to actually sit for a while.

‍

Affect Coffee Co. | 283 Roncesvalles Ave

‍

You might remember this spot as Extra Butter. Same crew, same in-house baking, new name. Open daily and known for buttery croissants and a proper London fog, with a community bookshelf and event posters that make it feel like the neighbourhood’s living room. A great low-key morning stop.

‍

Osprey Cafe | 1714 Queen St W

‍

Part cafe, part hair salon, fully charming. It sits where Queen West meets Roncy, with wooden tables, good light, and the kind of music that makes you want to stay and work a while. The brown butter chocolate chunk cookies have a bit of a cult following, and there are savoury bites if you want more than a snack.

‍

Reunion Coffee Roasters | 385 Roncesvalles Ave

‍

Bright, white-tiled and busy for good reason. They roast their own beans, so the coffee tastes noticeably fresh, and it’s a reliable pick for a flat white and a pastry. Popular with the work-from-a-cafe crowd, so aim for a little off-peak if you want a seat.

‍

Cherry Bomb Coffee | 79 Roncesvalles Ave

‍

A snug, much-loved staple near the south end of the strip. They roast in-house and are known for some of the best almond croissants in the city. It’s mostly grab-and-go, so swing by, grab a cup and a pastry, and keep strolling.

‍

Fantail | 333 Roncesvalles Ave

‍

Technically a bakery, but the espresso is excellent and worth the stop. Think creative, high-end pastries and savoury sandwiches alongside your latte. A great choice when you want your coffee with something a little more substantial.

‍

A Naturopath’s Two Cents on Coffee

‍

I’d be a funny naturopathic doctor if I didn’t weigh in on the coffee itself. For the record, I’m not anti-coffee at all. I just have a few small tweaks that help it work with your body instead of against it.

‍

The big one is timing. If you tend to feel wired but tired, coffee first thing on an empty stomach can add to that jittery, crash-later feeling. Try having a little food first, ideally something with protein, and giving yourself an hour or so after waking before your first cup. It’s a small shift that can make a real difference to your energy and your cortisol rhythm through the day.

‍

Roncesvalles also runs right along the east edge of High Park, so a coffee and a walk through the park is a pretty perfect West End morning. If you’re local to that side, I see patients as a naturopathic doctor serving High Park too.

‍

One more tip: if afternoon coffee leaves you staring at the ceiling at midnight, switching to decaf after noon is an easy win, and most of these spots pour a good one. And if you’ve been leaning on caffeine to paper over real fatigue, that’s worth a closer look. My Calm Your Cortisol 5-Day Reset is a simple place to start, and it’s exactly the wired-but-tired pattern we untangle in the clinic.

‍

Come Say Hi

‍

Roncesvalles is one of those streets that rewards a slow morning. Grab a coffee, wander, and if you head a little further up Roncy you’re in Bloor West Village, where I also work with patients as a naturopathic doctor in Bloor West Village. Wherever you’re coming from in the West End, I’m easy to find.
