Naturopathic Care

Mood Support & Mental Wellness

Mood concerns are deeply connected to what's happening inside your body. Address the physiological drivers alongside your existing mental health care.

Dr. Margot ND - A Naturopathic doctor working in Toronto and virtually online.

The opening conversation

If your mood feels unpredictable, your anxiety is running the show, or you just don't feel like yourself anymore, you are not imagining it and you are not alone. Mood concerns are incredibly common, and they are also incredibly misunderstood.

What most people don't realize is that how you feel emotionally is deeply connected to what is happening inside your body. Hormones, blood sugar, nutrient levels, sleep quality, and nervous system function all play a direct role in how stable, calm, and resilient you feel day to day. When any of these are off, your mood is often the first place it shows up.

Naturopathic care does not replace therapy, psychiatry, or other mental health support. In fact, I regularly work alongside other practitioners as part of a collaborative care team. What I bring to the table is a thorough investigation of the physiological drivers that may be making things harder, and a personalized plan to address them.

What I can help with

Anxiety and worry, depression and low mood, irritability and emotional dysregulation, mood swings, PMS-related mood changes, sleep disruption affecting mood, and ADHD support including focus, energy regulation, and nervous system support.

How I approach

Mood Support & Mental Wellness

Using the Hormone Cornerstone Method, I look at the full picture of what may be driving your mood concerns. This includes nutrient deficiencies such as iron, B12, vitamin D, and magnesium which are common and frequently missed, blood sugar and insulin regulation which has a powerful and often overlooked effect on mood and energy stability, nervous system dysregulation and cortisol patterns, sleep quality and how disrupted sleep affects emotional resilience, and hormonal influences including estrogen, progesterone, and thyroid function.

From there I build a personalized, manageable plan that supports your body and your mental wellness together.

FAQs

Don't see your question here? Reach out and I'll answer it directly.

How long before I notice a difference?

This varies by person and by what we find. Some patients notice shifts in mood, energy, and emotional resilience within the first few weeks of treatment. Others take longer depending on the complexity of their concerns. We set realistic expectations together from the start.

How is this different from therapy?

Therapy addresses the psychological and emotional dimensions of mental health. Naturopathic care addresses the physiological ones. The two are complementary and many of my patients work with both simultaneously. I focus on what is happening in your body that may be making things harder to manage.

What if my mood concerns are related to my cycle?

PMS and PMDD have a strong hormonal and nutritional component. If your mood changes are predictably tied to your cycle, that is very important clinical information and something we can absolutely investigate and address through the Hormone Cornerstone Method.

Can you support ADHD naturopathically?

Yes. While naturopathic care is not a replacement for psychiatric assessment or medication when needed, I can offer meaningful support through nutrition, nervous system regulation, sleep optimization, and targeted supplementation. Many patients find naturopathic support a helpful complement to their existing ADHD care.

Can hormones really affect my mood that much?

Absolutely. Estrogen, progesterone, cortisol, thyroid hormone, and insulin all have a direct effect on brain chemistry and nervous system function. Hormonal fluctuations around the menstrual cycle, perimenopause, postpartum, and periods of chronic stress are some of the most common drivers of mood changes I see in practice.

Do I need to stop my medications to work with you?

No. I work alongside conventional treatments including medications. Any changes to your existing medications would be discussed with your prescribing provider and never made unilaterally.

Can naturopathic care help with anxiety and depression?

Naturopathic care can be a meaningful support for mood concerns by addressing the physiological factors that contribute to how you feel, including nutrient deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, blood sugar dysregulation, and nervous system overload. It works best as part of a broader support system that may include therapy, psychiatry, or other mental health care depending on your situation.
